It started out widely-believed to be an April Fool's joke. Quite possibly the coolest AFJ of all time. Where most internet AFJs are generally designed to troll a userbase, it turned out that the true downside would, in fact, be that it was truly a prank. For the glory of video games & the good of mankind, the truth was revealed that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was, indeed, a reality. On April 1st, with only a website & a single video, Ubisoft teased the release of DLC for their latest Far Cry - the website & video went viral in the nerdy gaming world, in which you currently find yourself.

I'm no fan of DRM & I dislike services such as Origin & UPlay, but every once in a while I end up putting money in their hands. Blood Dragon has been one such occasion. From the teaser website,
"The year is 2007. It is the future. Earth has been ravaged by a nuclear war and new paths for peace must be found. A U.S. cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bioweapon on a distant island. A Mark IV Cyber Commando, Sergeant Rex Power Colt has been sent over to gather information and figure out what the hell is going on."
How could you not want to play that? If you lived through the 80's, you're sure to recognize right away what Blood Dragon is: a mash-up of all the best things about some of the most iconic movies of all time. I'm compiling an essential movie-watching list which will be linked later, but without a doubt its major influences are Predator & Terminator. I'm still impressed that Ubisoft got behind this DLC for Far Cry 3 (which was a mad decent game), especially when it has the potential to be more well-liked.  Reviews by both Jessica & myself forthcoming.

The OST cover.
I actually heard about FC3: BD on facebook when I saw Australian futuretro duo Power Glove release music for an original game soundtrack (I'm astounded how many articles I've read where authors do zero research & automatically attribute the soundtrack to the metal band Powerglove). I've been following Power Glove & other futuretro artists (Lazer Hawk, Daze, Danger, Perturbator, etc) for about a year with my amazing youtube playlist Beeps & Boops; Power Glove is at the top of my favorites for the grungy 80's style. When I heard they were doing a game soundtrack I immediately promised to play whatever game it would be. I haven't regretted it.

The soundtrack & game are available now! (amazon, itunes) Check out Power Glove's SoundCloud for previews!

Here's a totally rad Blood Dragon live action short called The Cyber War. Holy shit.

Just look at this sweet screenshot.
