NOVUS// Pokemon X Y

Available// 3DS October 2013

With only five more months to go, the Pokemon X Y news is ramping up. The sixth generation of hand-held Pokemon games will introduce full 3D effects, similar to the N64-to-Wii franchise of Pokemon Stadium, Colosseum, etc. I am definitely getting a 3DS for this, even though I love my pink DSi that got signed by AVGN! Here's a collection of stuff I know about PKMN X/Y, including the most recent news.

NEW POKEMON REVEALED

A few days ago, Pokebeach reported that the popular Japanese children's magazine CoroCoro had released new images & information pertaining to the forthcoming Pokemon release. We now have new pokemon, the region's name, some attacks, game art & screenshots. Today, the official Pokemon X/Y website updated with localized versions of the same information & tons of new screen shots. Check them all out on Pokebeach.
  • When Pokémon fans begin their thrilling 3D adventure[...] they will be transported into an entirely new region called Kalos. A mysterious place that is shaped like a star, Kalos is a region where players will encounter beautiful forests, thriving cities, and many never-before-seen Pokémon. The central city of this breathtaking region is Lumiose City, a metropolis featuring a tower that is set to become an iconic structure in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. (Lumiose City is said to be based on France)
  • The cowardly Pokémon Helioptile, a Normal and Electric-type Pokémon, can generate enough electricity through sunbathing to power machinery. But wise Trainers won’t be deterred by Helioptile’s lack of bravery. It knows Parabolic Charge, a brand-new move where Helioptile attacks everything around it. Helioptile’s HP is restored by half the damage taken by those hit.
  • Fletchling, a Normal and Flying-type Pokémon, sings with a beautiful chirp that is sure to delight any Trainer. Although it is known to be very friendly, Fletchling will suddenly unleash relentless attacks once it’s in battle. For example, when it uses its Fire-type move Flame Charge in battle, in addition to doing damage, Fletchling’s Speed increases every time.
  • With a leaf always in its mouth and an intimidating glare that is rarely effective, Fighting-type Pokémon Pancham shows its playful side when it lets out a little smile when its head is pat. Pancham can learn a brand-new move, Parting Shot, which not only lowers an opponent’s Attack and Special Attack, but also allows Pancham to switch out for another Pokémon in a Trainer’s party during battle.
  • Pokémon X and Pokémon Y introduce a new method of transportation—riding the brand-new Pokémon, Gogoat. This large Grass-type Pokémon is a reliable way to travel certain parts of Lumiose City. In battle, it can use Horn Leech to recover HP equal to half the damage dealt by this move.

NEW TYPE: FAIRY

This is most definitely some of the biggest news: the addition of a new type. There are tons of fan speculations & rumors surrounding this subject, but well-known Pokemon informant "Hiro" has revealed that the new type is indeed fairy-type. Although Hiro has been correct in the past, this is still unconfirmed by either Gamefreak or Nintendo. I find this to be incredibly likely for several reasons,

  • There is already an Egg Group called Fairy which contains almost exactly the pokemon that you would guess to be in it, with a few randoms thrown in.
  • The new Legendary Pokemon, Xerneas & Yveltal, have not had their types revealed. There is a rumor that Xerneus is a Fairy-type, & that Yveltal will be Flying/Dark.
  • Reclassification of previous Pokemon to Fairy-type makes a lot more sense than something like "Light-type," which is another popular speculation. The type would be comprised of a large of section out of the pokedex that would likely lose their normal-type for fairy.
Below are the words of Hiro, taken from the Pokebeach article linked above,
Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it.
Sylveon is Fairy-type. Some older Pokemon will be reclassified to Fairy, such as Mawile (Steel/Fairy).
The first Gym is Bug, the second is Fairy, and the fourth is Fighting.

NEW EEVEELUTION

What's with the arrow
pointing to its butt? Is Eevee
staring at Sylveon's ass?
We finally get a new eeveelution after Diamond/Pearl's Glaceon & Leafeon in 2007. Meet Sylveon! Gamefreak & Nintendo have not revealed Sylveon's type, but due to the rumors of the NEW type, many agree that it will be a fairy-type pokemon. Further evidence to support that are from the pokemon's name, as usual: ニンフィア Nymphia is the original Japanese name & is clearly based on Greek Mythology's "nymphae," which are personifications of nature in most cases; they can be seen as similar to fairies, but as far as I'm aware none were known to have wings. Sylveon is derived from "sylph," a spirit of the air in Western folklore which are often identified with fairies. But eeveelutions usually come in twos...

I have read speculations suggesting that there is another new type besides the one already being teased, & I would guess that the second eeveelution could reflect that. Otherwise all that's left is an eeveelution for: dragon, ghost, steel, fighting, flying, stone, poison, ground, bug. This topic has been popular with Fakemon artists for many years.

What type would you like to see a new eeveelution for? I personally would like a duo of fighting & ghost Eevee to appear! I think we would probably be hard-pressed to get a dragon Eevee, but the others seem equally likely.

MEWTWO 2 or MEWTHREE

Everyone's favorite scientific experiment, the genetically altered Mewtwo, gets a new form. Mewtwo hasn't been revisited & is one of the original 152 pokemon. The new form has been revealed by Nintendo, but the form's name has yet to be confirmed. Again Hiro has rumors involving this pokemon,
Mewtwo has two new formes, not just one. Both are activated via items.
The quote below is stated on Pokebeach at the top of Hiro's insider information article,
We just noticed this, but the filename for Mewtwo’s new forme on the official Pokemon movie website is [...]M2x.png. M2X = Mewtwo X, so maybe there’s a Mewtwo Y? Regular Mewtwo’s filename is infoM2.png, so the “x” was obviously added on purpose for the form’s filename.

Fakemon artists are hard at work trying to visualize the evolutions of the new starter pokemon, & undoubtedly, very soon there will be even more for the four new pokemon revealed in this article. Again Hiro has some unconfirmed information to share about the subject,
The Starter final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dark, and Water/Fighting.
Here are some of the fakemon starter evolutions that I liked; enjoy!

WHICH STARTER WILL YOU PICK???
